In these days of instantly available digital photography when our likenesses are recorded over and again, it has become even more special to have a portrait painted. A portrait can mark a birth or marriage, graduation, sports achievement or a well earned retirement - or it can simply capture an individual at a point in their life and preserve the moment for ever.
Watercolour is a subtle and uniquely sensitive medium for portraiture. It lends a lightness and delicacy to any subject. A portrait is the perfect gift.
The commissioning process is simple. The first meeting with the client will determine the pose, clothing and setting. It is at this stage that I take photographs for reference. At my studio I work on the drawing to size and once approved, will start work on the painting. The painting will take from 4 to 8 weeks to complete.
Fees for portraits are usually in the range of £250-1000 according to the size of portrait and whether a single or group subject. At drawing approval stage I will invoice 30% of the total fee. Final payment will be due on completion and presentation of the portrait.
